The annual U.S. 60 Yard Sale in Carter County will again be held during the first weekend of August.
The yard sale event has certainly been more popular with bargain-seeking tourists since adopting a two-day format a couple of years ago. "This year it will be Aug. 6 and 7."
The yard sale will begin at 8 a.m. and continue to 5 p.m. each day. Participants and vendors alike are encouraged to observe basic safety rules and use caution while parking and crossing the busy highway. |

Our own J.B. Miller will broadcast LIVE Saturday, August 7th, in Ashland with CAReS & Chik-Fil-A. CAReS (Community Assistance and Referral Service) is partnering with Chik-Fil-A at Riverhill Drive to present CAReS Fair at the Neighborhood at 25th and Carter Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug.7.
Trish Hall, director of CAReS, said the streets will be closed to provide space for inflatables for children and for local community agencies to set up booths.
She said events are open to everyone, not just clients. Those needing assistance are welcome to attend to see what services are available but others may attend, too.
"We are hoping to raise awareness and to replenish a lot of the things we provide to clients," Hall said. There is no admission charge, but donations of non-perishable food items, personal care items, diapers in larger sizes and financial help will be welcome. Chik-Fil-A will give coupons to anyone who brings donations to the event.
CAReS provides Boyd County residents with emergency help with medications, food, utilities, rent and referrals to social services.
She said this isn't the first time CAReS has hosted a fair, but it's been a few years. Hall said she doesn't have any idea how many the fair will attract.
"We hope having the streets closed will attract a crowd," she said. "We really don't know, but we hope we'll get a good turnout."
In addition to inflatables, children will have the chance to have their faces painted and play games. A caricature artist will be on site and the Ashland Fire Department will be guests. Ashland Police Department will fingerprint children with their Identikit program, Lowe's will bring their hands-on "Build and Grow" projects for children and King's Daughters Medical Center will have a team to demonstrate car seat safety. Tri-State on-air personality J.B. Miller of Magic FM 97.9 will provide a remote live broadcast with music. |
